RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware senior goalkeeper Lindsey Shover (at right) has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association women’s soccer player of the week for the week ending October 24.
Shover (Lancaster, PA/ Penn Manor) recorded five saves in a 1-0 shutout of George Mason University on Friday night and followed that up with a season-high 10 saves against Towson in a 1-1 tie on Sunday. For the season, Shover now has a 1.11 goals against average and an .811 save percentage. She ranks third in the CAA in save percentage and is tied for second in shutouts. She has also recorded five shutouts, bringing her career total to 19, which places her one behind Sheena Hunter for second place in school history.
The award marks the first time a Delaware player has been selected player of the week during the 2005 season. The last time a Blue Hen was selected as CAA Player of the Week was the week of October 17, 2004, when Shannon Alger was picked following two goals and one assist in wins over Virginia Commonwealth and UNC Wilmington.
Delaware currently sits tied for third place in CAA play with a record of 5-3-1, 8-5-3 overall. The Blue Hens were ranked No. 10 in last week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America Mid-Atlantic Poll, and No. 12 in the Soccer Buzz Mid-Atlantic Poll.
Delaware will return to action this Thursday with a 7 p.m. match at home against UNC Wilmington. The Hens will then close out the regular season on Saturday with a home match against Georgia State at 1 pm. Both games will be played in Delaware Mini-Stadium.
