Delaware (6-3-2, 3-1 CAA), which won for the third time in the last four outings, overcame two second half one-goal deficits to post the victory over the Monarchs (9-2, 2-1 CAA), who had a seven-game winning streak snapped after their best start in school history.

The Blue Hens remained unbeaten in six all-time meetings against Old Dominion, improving to 5-0-1 after last year’s 0-0 tie. The Hens’ 3-1 start in league play is their best since the 1999 season when the team opened America East conference play 3-1.

Alger (Morris Catholic/Hopatcong, NJ), a first team All-CAA selection a year ago, took a feed from sophomore Lindsay Boyd and scored past ODU goalkeeper Colby Owen with just 2:59 left to play for her second goal of the season.

Boyd (Abington/Abington, PA) had tied the game at 2-2 just seven minutes and 18 seconds earlier when she scored her first goal of the season unassisted at the 79:43 mark.

Old Dominion opened the scoring late in the first half when Heather Vaughan scored off a feed from Kim Snyder with 8:03 left to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead at the half. But Delaware came back to tie the score at 1-1 just three minutes and 51 seconds into the second stanza as Shelby Lawrence (St. Francis deSales/Columbus, OH) scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Mary Beth Creed.

Vaughan helped ODU regain the lead just under three minutes later when she scored her second goal of the game, this time unassisted, at the 51:21 mark. Neither team scored again until Boyd’s game-tying tally 28 minutes later.

Old Dominion outshot Delaware 16-13 and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Delaware goalkeeper Lindsey Shover (Penn Manor/Lancaster, PA) posted a season-high nine saves to pick up the victory.
