MISSION, KS-- The University of Delaware women’s soccer team is tied for the 10th spot in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Poll.
The Blue Hens appear in the coach’s poll for the first time in the 2005 season. They are currently ranked 12th in the Soccer Buzz Mid-Atlantic rankings after entering the rankings at 14th last week.
The poll is headed by undefeated Penn State and followed by Virginia, West Virginia, Villanova and Virginia Commonwealth respectively. VCU is the highest of five teams from the the Colonial Athletic Association ranked in the top 10. Also appearing from the CAA are James Madison (sixth), Old Dominion (seventh), and William & Mary (ninth). The Hens (7-5-2, 4-3 CAA) have defeated James Madison and Old Dominion within the last two weekends.
The Blue Hens are led by senior Shelby Lawrence and Caitlyn Germain, who are tied for the team lead with seven points apiece. In addition, senior goalie Lindsey Shover has a 1.22 goals against average and four shutouts for the season.
The Hens will return to action this weekend when they travel to George Mason on Friday at 7 p.m. and Towson Sunday at 1 p.m.
