CARY, NC-- North Carolina State freshman Tami Krzeszewski scored her first
career goal 19:53 into the second half to lead the host Wolfpack past the
University of Delaware women’s soccer team 2-1 in the final game of the
Summitt Hospitality Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
The loss was the first of the season for the Hens (1-1-2), who had been coming
off of consecutive 1-1 ties.
Delaware took the lead only 8:35 into the contest on sophomore Alli D’Amico’s
first goal of the season. The goal snapped a streak of three consecutive
shutouts for the Wolfpack, who had not allowed a goal in nearly 300 minutes of
game action. Caitlyn Germain earned the assist on the goal, the first of her
career. Germain also registered six shots to lead the Hens, as she has done in all
three previous games.
The Wolfpack tied the score less than eight minutes later. Megan Buescher’s
throw in hit a cutting Carol Tognetti on the right side, and Tognetti headed the
ball past Lindsey Shover for ther third goal of the season. The teams continued
to battle to a virtual deadlock until Krzeszewski’s goal put the Wolfpack ahead
for good. The win gave North Carolina State their second straight win in the
tournament they host.
Lindsey Shover made seven saves in the loss for the Hens. Kim Selz made five to
earn the win for the Wolfpack.
The Blue Hens will return to action on Friday when they open their home
schedule by hosting Temple. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.
