FAIRFAX, VA -- Sophomore Emily Sammis (right) scored her first career goal with only 1:24 remaining to vault the Delaware women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over George Mason in a Colonial Athletic Association match in Fairfax Friday night.
Sammis’ goal came off of a corner kick by Mary Beth Creed. The score capped a second half which saw the Hens (8-5-2, 5-3 CAA) roar back after being outshot 10-3 in the first half. The Hen’s best opportunity to score prior to the goal came in the 75th minute when Shannon Alger’s shot from inside the box was stopped by George Mason (7-9, 4-4 CAA) goalkeeper Kasey Davenport.
Delaware senior goalkeeper Lindsey Shover made eight saves in posting her fifth shutout of the season. Shover now has 19 shutouts for her career and now sits only one behind Sheena Hunter for second place in school history.
Delaware will return to action this Sunday with a visit to Towson for a 1 p.m. match with the Tigers.
