Bennett Earns All-East Honors with Seventh Place Finish at ECAC Pole Vault Competition

DATE: May 15, 2005

PRINCETON, NJ -- The University of Delaware men's and women's outdoor track and field squads competed at the IC4A and ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium.

Delaware senior pole vaulter Casey Bennett (right), who captured the Colonial Athletic Association championship three weeks ago, was the Blue Hens' top finisher as she placed seventh in the ECAC women's pole vault competition to earn All-East honors. Bennett, who will compete at the NCAA East Regionals in two weeks at Manhattan College, jumped to a height of 11-feet, 7 3/4 inches Saturday to tie three others for seventh place. Pennsylvania's Samantha Crook won the title with a vault of 13-feet, 1 1/2 inches.

Also competing for the UD women's team was the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Brittany Wright, Rayna Horsey, Kristen Frustillo, and Domonique Carter which placed 21st overall with a time of 48.26.

The Delaware men were scheduled to compete in five events during the IC4A championships but were limited due to several injuries.

Jay Bradley placed 23rd in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 14.88 Saturday while Mike Yost (right), this year's CAA discus champion, placed 25th in the hammer throw with a toss of 171-09 despite battling a back injury. Yost, who will also compete at the NCAA regionals in two weeks, also competed in the discus Friday but fouled on all three attempts.

Delaware's Chris Dixon was scheduled to compete in the men's 110 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles Saturday but suffered a hamstring injury. Since Dixon was also a member of Delaware's 4 x 100 meter relay team, the Blue Hens also did not compete in that event.
