& Field Regionals Friday at
Manhattan

NY -- University of Delaware men's discus
thrower Mike Yost and women's pole vaulter
Casey Bennett (right) will represent the
Blue Hens at the NCAA Division I Outdoor
Track and Field East Regionals this Friday
at Manhattan College's Icahn
Stadium.
Yost, a
senior from from Felton, DE (Lake Forest
HS), and Bennett, a senior from Shelton,
CT (Shelton HS) are both automatic
qualifiers to the regional after capturing
their respective Colonial Athletic
Association individual titles back in
April.
Yost is
one of 27 competitors in the discus, which
will be held beginning at noon Friday.
Bennett, who is competing at the regionals
for the second straight year after placing
ninth a year ago, is one of 28 competitors
in the pole vault, which will begin at 3
p.m.
North
Carolina junior Vikas Gowda is the
favorite in the men's discus while Georgia
junior Kierney Hiteshew is the favorite in
the women's pole vault. Meet champions
will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA
Championships June 8-11 at Sacramento (CA)
State University.
In
addition to Manhattan hosting the East
Regional, the University of Indiana is
hosting the Mideast Regional, the
University of Oklahoma is hosting the
Midwest Regional, and the University of
Oregon is hosting the West Regional. The
East Regional includes schools from Maine
to Florida and will include athletes from
such national powers as Florida, Georgia,
Florida State, Penn State, Clemson,
Georgetown, and Penn State.
Bennett,
who has won 18 career indoor and outdoor
meet pole vault titles, earned All-East
honors two weeks ago by placing seventh in
the event at the ECAC championships at
Princeton. Her career best vault is a
school-record 12-feet,
6-inches.
Yost, who
has won eight outdoor meet titles in the
hammer and discus this spring, placed 15th
in the hammer and 19th in the discus at
the IC4A regionals two weeks ago at
Princeton. His career best throw in the
discus stands at 158-feet, 2-inches, the
seventh longest throw in school history.
