Bennett Captures Pole Vault With School Record Height

TOWSON, MD -- University of Delaware junior Casey Bennett set the school record in the women's pole vault for the third time this season with a leap of 12-feet, 6-inches to capture first place and highlight Blue Hen performances at the Towson University Track and Field Invitational Sunday at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

Bennett, who has already qualified for the NCAA Regionals later this month at the University of Florida, was the lone UD woman to capture first place while the Delaware men had two first place finishes as Matt Moore won the 10,000 meter run (37:42.0) and Mike Yost (158-10) was the winner in the hammer and placed third in the discus (148-11). No team standings were compiled.

Taking home second place finishes for Delaware were Patrick Wilcox in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:12.07), Matt Bryden in the men's 5,000 meters (16:24.0), and Allison Behrle in the women's 10,000 meters (43:26.8).

Also for the Delaware men, Matt Orensky was third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:13.09), Matt Arbaugh was third in the pole vault (13-5 1/4), Jerome Holder was third in the 100 meter hurdles (14.96), Scott Armstrong was third in the javelin (168-8), and Mike Manlove was third in the 5,000 meters (16:45.0).

Also for the Blue Hen women, Veronica Welsh was third in the 3,000 meters (11:28.85), Stephanie Cronk was third in the hammer (135-4), Kristin Collins was third in the high jump (5-1 3/4), Elizabeth Russell was fourth in the high jump (5-1 3/4), sixth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.88), and 13th in the 200 meters (27.10), Brittany Wright was fourth in the 200 meters (25.26) and sixth in the 400 meters (59.17), and Jessica Urbonas was third in the discus (121-8), seventh in the hammer (121-7), and ninth in the shot put (36-9).
