Blue Hens Set Record in 4 x 400 Meter Relay

PRINCETON, NJ - Jon DiNozzi earned All-East honors by placing tied for sixth in the men's pole vault and the Blue Hen women's 4 x 400 meter relay team set a school record to highlight University of Delaware performances at the IC4A and ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships held this weekend at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium.

DiNozzi, a senior from Middletown, DE and the reigning Colonial Athletic Association pole vault champion, was Delaware's top finisher as he tied for sixth place with a leap of 15-feet, 7-inches Saturday to tie Mark Harbeck of Cornell. Brad Bowery of Brown won the event with a vault of 17-0.

The top eight finish earned DiNozzi All-East honors for the third time in his career with the Blue Hens. He was sixth at the IC4A indoor meet in 2001 and seventh at the IC4A outdoor meet in 2001. DiNozzi will compete at the NCAA Regional meet May 30-31 at George Mason University.

DiNozzi's sixth place finish helped Delaware earn 2.5 points and place 45th in the team standings. West Virginia won the men's team title with 48 points, one more than runner-up and host Princeton with 47 points.

The Delaware women did not earn team points for the meet. Winning the women's team title was Pittsburgh, which ran away with the team title with 114 points. Georgetown was second with 68 points.

Also competing for the Delaware men was senior Mike Sadowsky (Brandywine/Wilmington, DE) who placed 19th in the 10,000 meters Friday night. He ran to a time of 31:37.33. The winning time was put in by St. Francis (Pa.) distance runner Ryan Sheehan in 29:38.36.

Highlighting the UD women at the ECAC championships was the 4 x 400 meter relay team of freshman Daniella Price (Chichester/Boothwyn, PA), junior Tyechia Smith (McNair/Jersey City, NJ), junior Rachel Schultz (Caesar Rodney/Dover, DE), and senior Erin Gemmill (Penn Manor/Lancaster, PA) which raced to a time of 3:53.79 to place 17th overall Saturday night. Seton Hall won the race in a time of 3:41.09. The Hens broke the school record in the event for third time this season, surpassing the mark of 3:54.24 set by Smith, Price, Gemmill, and Kristen Frustillo set in April.

Also competing for the UD women was Christine Kowalchuk (Phillipsburg/Phillipsburg, NJ), who placed 15th in the javelin Sunday afternoon. Kowalchuk, the league runner-up in the event each of the last two seasons, tossed the javelin 114 feet, 3 inches to place 15th. Pennsylvania's J. Johnson-Siebert won the event with a toss of 148-11.
