Blue Hens Dominate
Meet at Delaware Mini-Stadium
NEWARK, DE -- University of
Delaware track and field athletes captured 22 first place
finishes to dominate the Delaware Invitational Saturday at
the Delaware Mini-Stadium.
Delaware dominated the non-scoring
tri-meet that also included teams from Lincoln University
and Towson University.
Winning titles for the Delaware women
were Christine Kowalchuk (Phillipsburg/Phillipsburg,
PA) in the javelin (126-7 1/2); Jennie Chiller
(Sharon/Sharon, MA) in the hammer (146-10); Jess
Urbonas (Rockville/Vernon, CT) in the discus (118-7);
Kerry Van Riper (Bethlehem Central/Delmar, NY) in the
shot put (35-11 1/2); Kate Klim
(Barnstable/Cummaquid, MA) in the 3,000 meter
steeplechase (11:33.56); the 4 x 100 meter relay team
(48.92); the 4x400 meter relay team (3:58.62); Sarah
Bochet (Trunbull/Trumbull, CT) in the 400 meters hurdles
(1:03.73); Monica Marchetta (Milton/Milton, MA) in
the 10,000 meters (38:47.89); Aimee Alexander
(Carmel/Stormville, NY) in the 3,000 meters (9:59.13);
Kristen Frustillo (Cardinal O'Hara/Newtown Square,
PA) in the 400 meters (58.78); Erin Gemmill(Penn
Manor/Lancaster, PA) in the 800 meters (2:15.27); Tyechia
Smith (McNair Academic/Jersey City, NJ) in the 200
meters (25.92), and Kristen Salvatore (St.
Mark's/Bear, DE) in the 100 meters (12.88).
Klim set a school record in the 3,000
meter steeplechase for the third time this season with a
time of 11:33.56.
For the Delaware men, Mike Goodhart
(Warwick/Lititz, PA) won the hammer (172-4); Mike
Yost (Lake Forest/Felton, DE) won the discus (143-7);
Isaac Wolkowicz (Newark/Newark, DE) captured the shot
put title (45-1); Jon DiNozzi (Fox Lane
(NY)/Middletown, DE) was the winner in the pole vault (15-6
1/4); Jerome Holder (Woodbridge/Bridgeville, DE)
captured the 110 meter hurdles (15.67); Carl Kinney
(Middletown/Townsend, DE) won the 5,000 meters
(15:59.96); Pat Riley (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) won the
10,000 meters (30:49.88); and Brandon Jones
(Pennsbury/Newtown, PA) was the winner in the 100 meters
(11.31).
Riley's performance in the 10,000 meters
was the fifth best time in school history and qualified him
for this yea'rs IC4A championships.
Delaware will continue action next
Saturday at the Towson University Invitational.
