17th in Women's College Pole Vault
PHILADELPHIA -- University of
Delaware sophomore Jon DiNozzi placed second in the
Eastern pole vault competition to lead Blue Hen competitors
at the Penn Relays this past weekend at the University of
Pennsylvania's Franklin Field.
DiNozzi (Fox Lane HS, NY/Middletown, DE)
leaped to a height of 15-9 to place second in the event
behind Penn State's Kevin Dare who won the event with a leap
of 16-2 3/4.
Also for the Delaware men, sophomore
Ben Thuma (Northern York/Harrisburg, PA) placed 17th in
the discus with a toss of 155-2; the 4 x 200 meter relay
team placed seventh in its heat in a time of 1:31.76 (Penn
State won in 1:24.10); the 4 x 100 meter relay team placed
eighth in its heat in a time of 46.68 (Maine won in 42.28);
and the 4 x 400 meter relay team placed 11th in its heat of
the Wetzler Pennsylvania race in a time of 3:25.54 (Lock
Haven won in 3:16.62). Individual names of relay competitors
were not announced by the Penn Relays.
For the Delaware women, senior Carol
Oliveri (St. Rose/Brick, NJ) placed 17th in the pole
vault with a leap of 10-8; the 4 x 400 meter relay team of
Liesje Cardillo (Bishop Eustace/Marlton, NJ),
Tyechia Smith (McNair/Jersey City, NJ), Jen
Lublanecki (West Morris Central/Long Valley, NJ), and
Amber MacNeill (Downingtown/West Chester, PA) was
fourth in its heat in a time of 4:05.80 (Virginia
Commonwealth won in 4:01.11); the 4 x 100 meter relay team
of Cardillo, Kristen Salvatore (St. Mark's/Bear, DE),
Colleen Christopher (Ursuline/Wilmington, DE), and
Lublanecki placed fifth in its heat in 50.44 (North
Carolina-Pembroke won in 48.77); the 4 x 200 meter relay
team of Cardillo, Salvatore, Smith, and Lublanecki was
seventh in 1:46.82 (Seton Hall won in 1:34.61); and the 4 x
800 meter relay team of MacNeill, Jenn Krisch (Great
Valley/Malvern, PA), Aimee Alexander
(Carmel/Stormville, NY), and Sarah Johnson (RHAM
Regional/Hebron, CT) was 31st in a time of 9:35.31 (Auburn
won in 8:48.38).
Both University of Delaware teams will
compete at the America East Championships next Saturday, May
5, at Northeastern University in Boston.
