TALLAHASSEE, FL -- University of Delaware senior outdoor track and field standout Asha Quant (at right), who earned All-East honors by placing fourth in the long jump at the ECAC Championships this past weekend, has qualified to compete in the NCAA East Regionals to be held May 30-31 at Florida State University.

Quant, a chemical engineering major from Willingboro, NJ (Holy Cross High School), will be one of approximately 30 competitors in the long jump competition to be held at FSU’s Mike Long Track. The women’s long jump competition will begin on Friday, May 30 at 4 p.m.

The top five finishers at the meet automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held June 11-14 at Drake University in Des Moines, IA.

She qualified for the regionals after a fourth place finish at the ECAC championships on Saturday at Princeton University that earned her All-East honors. Her leap of 19-feet, 11 1/2 inches tied her own school record set last season and surpassed the NCAA regional qualifying distance of 19-feet, 8 1/4-inches.

A four-year letterwinner, Quant has enjoyed an outstanding senior season for the Blue Hens. In addition to placing fourth in the long jump at the ECAC meet, she placed seventh in the event at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships back in April and also won long jump titles in meets at Towson, Rider, and Delaware this spring.

Also an outstanding sprinter, she also placed third in the 4 x 400 meter relay, sixth in the 4 x 100 meter relay, and 11th in both the 100 and 200 meter dash events. At the ECAC this past weekend, she also placed 10th in the 4 x 100 meter relay and 27th in the 4 x 400 meter relay.

She holds Delaware records in the indoor long jump and 4 x 400 meter relay and in the outdoor long jump, 4 x 100 meter relay, 4 x 200 meter relay, and 4 x 400 meter relay.
