LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- Alexi Capsouras (at right) won three races to lead the University of Delaware to a second place finish and the Blue Hen men took fourth place in the team standings at the Rider University Outdoor Track and Field Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The Delaware women captured eight first place finishes to post 162 points, just one shy of champion Sacred Heart with 163 points. Host Rider was third followed by LaSalle, Temple, Loyola, and St. Peter’s. Sacred Heart also won the men’s team title with 160 points followed by LaSalle (139), Rider (98), Delaware (90), Temple (87), St. Peter’s (22), and Loyola (2).
Capsouras won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.98 and the 400 meter hurdles with a clocking of 1:05.21 and teamed with Liz Harvin, Cristine Marquez, and Kellyn Wright to win the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3:56.92.
Also taking first place finishes for the UD women were Rachel Young in the discus (137-10), Kelli McDonald in the pole vault (career-best 11-11 3/4), the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Harvin, Daniella Price, Asha Quant, and Brittany Wright (48.67), Christina Antonopoulos in the 1,500 meters (4:44.79), and Quant in the 200 meters (25.66).
The Delaware men had one individual champion as Gregg Cantwell captured the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:00.25. Also for the Blue Hens, Jared Wasser was second in the shot put (50-10 1/4), fourth in the hammer (148-11), and fifth in the discus (138-8), Brandon Swartout was second in the long jump (21-8 3/4), and Matt Guida was second in the pole vault (13-11 3/4).
Also for the Blue Hen women, Amanda Marshall was second in the shot put (41-2 1/2) and third in the discus (131-70, Young was second in the hammer (152-3), Laura Chirico was second in the pole vault 911-5 3/4), Wright was second in the 200 meters (26.36) and third in the 100 meters (12.82), and Quant was second in the 100 meters (12.78).
