LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ --- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s track teams both posted third place finishes at the Rider Invitational Saturday.
The Delaware men produced 22 top-five finishers and the women placed in the top-five 29 times.
On the men’s side, Charlie Williams took the 400 meters in 48.98, Brad Dodson won the 800 in 1:54.37, Chris Dixon bested the field in the 400 meter hurdles, and Alex Gambogi won the 3000 meter steeplechase in 10:15.37. In addition, Jared Wasser placed second in the shot put and fifth in both the discus and the hammer for the Blue Hens.
On the women’s side, Paula Green was the only multiple first-place winner on either side for Delaware, as she took the 100 meters in a time of 12.33 and won the 200 meters in 25.62.
Also taking first place for the Blue Hens were Laura Heenan wininng the 800 meters in 2:25.99, Julia Somers taking the 1500 meters in 4:53.34, Lauren Stephenson winning the 5000 meters in 20:15.53, Alexi Capsouras winning the 100 meter hurdles in 15.03, Casey Bennet capturing the pole vault at a height of 12-00.00 and Asha Quant (at right) winning the long jump with a leap of 5.65 meters. In addition, Michelle Gomes, Domonique Carter, Rachel Young and Rayna Horsey all posted two top-five finishes for the Hens.
The relay teams on the men’s and women’s side found success, as the men’s 4 x 400 relay team took second in 3:27.05 and the womens 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 teams took first place in 48.15 and 4:06.70, respectively.
The Blue Hen track teams will next compete at the Colonial Athletic Association championships April 21-22 at Virginia Commonwealth University.
