NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware will take on 10 other teams when the Blue Hens host the annual Delaware Outdoor Track and Field Invitational Saturday at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.
The event will get underway at 11 a.m. with the pole vault, long jump, hammer throw, shot put, and javelin taking place. The track events will begin at 12 noon with the 3,000 meter steeplechase. In all, 19 events will be contested for both the men and women. Admission to the event is free.
In addition to Delaware, also competing will be men’s teams from American, Coppin State, Delaware State, La Salle, Lincoln, Morgan State, and Temple and women’s teams from American, Coppin State, Delaware State, George Mason, La Salle, Lincoln, Morgan State, Navy, Temple, and Towson. Last year’s event saw four Delaware Mini-Stadium records set.
Delaware, which will compete at the Rider Invitational next Saturday before taking part in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships April 21-22 at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, will also host a second Delaware Invitational May 6.
The Delaware men, led by head coach Jim Fischer, are led by distance runners Brad Dodson and Sam MacKenzie and weight thrower Jared Wasser. The UD women, coached by Sue McGrath-Powell, are led by pole vaulter Casey Bennett, weight thrower Rachel Young, and sprinter Daniella Price (at right).
