PRINCETON, NJ -- University of Delaware junior Brad Dodson was the top Blue Hen finisher at the ECAC and IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Princeton University’s Weaver Stadium.
Dodson (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) placed 14th in the 1,500 meters with a career best time of 3:51.05, the third best time in school history, to pace Blue Hen performers at the annual regional meet.
The IC4A championships are held for the men and the ECAC championships are held for the women.
Final day action will conclude on Sunday when Delaware shot putters Jared Wasser and Rachel Young will compete.
Also for the Delaware men Saturday, Scott Vari (St. Mark’s/Wilmington, DE) placed 16th in the 100 meters with a career-best time of 10.83, Sam MacKenzie (Groton Central, NY/Newark, DE) was 20th in the 1,500 meters with a clocking of 3:51.05, the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Vari, Chris Dixon (Hempfield/Lancaster, PA), Frank Mancuso (Longwood/Ridge, NY), and Charlie Williams (Powhatan/Powhatan, VA) placed 20th with a time of 42.64, and Kyle Casella (Bishop Eustace/Lindenwold, NJ) finished 24th in the hammer throw with a toss of 166-feet, 5-inches.
On the women’s side, the Delaware 4 x 100 meter relay team of Brittany Wright (Eastern/Voorhees, NJ), Michelle Gomes (University/Orlando, FL - at right), Paula Green (Polytech/Milford, DE), and Asha Quant (Holy Cross/Willingboro, NJ) was the top finisher with a 15th place finish in a time of 48.05. Gomes also competed in the 100 meters and placed 18th with a time of 12.30.
Also competing for the Blue Hens was senior pole vaulter Casey Bennett (Shelton/Shelton, CT), who did not place among 15 competitors after not reaching the minimum height of 11-feet, 5 3/4 inches. Bennett, the Colonial Athletic Association runner-up in the event three weeks ago and an NCAA Eastern Regional qualifier, placed seventh in the event a year ago to earn All-East honors.
