UD Men's Track finishes second and Women's Track sixth
in
America East Championships
BOSTON -- The University of
Delaware men's outdoor track and field team finished in
second place and the Blue Hen women placed sixth at the
America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday
at Northeastern University.
The men's track team, which finished with
168.50 points ,18 behind champin New Hampshire which won its
fourth straight America East championship, improved upon
last season's third place finish.
The Delaware's women's track team also
showed marked improvement over last season's performance
when it finished sixth with 75 points. Northeastern won the
women's conference championships for the fifth season in a
row.
The men's track team was higlighted by
eight second place finishers and five third place finishers.
Eric Sands (Discus), Sam Yarrington (Hammer), Tom Marando
(Shot Put), Gary Fairchild (Long Jump), the 4 x 400
Relay team, Kevin Danahy (5,000 meters), Dave Geesamen
(10,000 meters), Bokah Worjoloh (400 meter hurdles)
and Mike DiGennaro (3,000 meters steeplechase) all gave the
Hens second place finishes.
Highlighting the women's track team was
Brandy Connell, who won the discus throw with a toss
of 171'11.00 and Carol Oliveri, who won the pole
vault with a school and America East record height of 10-6.
Delaware also got third place finishes out of Caron
Marra in the 1,500 meters and Kasia Brodka in the
400 meter Hurdles.
