Dietrich, Alexander Win Events for Blue
Hens
TOWSON, MD -- University of Delaware
athletes capture seven first place finishes at the Towson
University Outdoor Track and Field Invitational Saturday at
Minnegan Stadium.
A total of 17 men's and women's teams
competed at the non-scoring event. The Delaware men and
women each had 16 top five finishes as well.
The University of Delaware men took home
three gold medals as Sam Yarrington (Quaker
Valley/Sewickley, PA) won the hammer throw (172.9) and
freshman Asher Ailey (West Windsor/Plainsboro, NJ)
captured the 200 meters (22.27) and ran a leg of the winning
4 x 100 meter relay team (42.80).
For the Blue Hen women, All-East high
jumper Annemarie Quinn (Strath-Haven/Wallingford, PA)
won the high jump (5-4), freshman Laura Dietrich
(Northeastern/York, PA) was the winner in the triple jump
(34-9 1/4), Caron Marra (Newark HS) won the 800
meters (2:17.88), and Aimee Alexander
(Carmel/Stormville, NY) won the 3,000 meters (10:03.10).
Also for the Delaware men, Ailey also
placed second in the 400 meters (48.99), Andrew Palm
(South Kingstown/Kingston, RI) was second in the javelin
(170-5), Peter Kelly (Elmira Southside/Pine City, NY)
was third in the 10,000 meters (33:11.29), Robb Munro
(Sidney, NY Central HS) was third in the 1,500 meters
(3:59.08), and Fred DePalma (Penns Grove/Salem, NJ)
was third in the javelin (149-4).
Also for the Blue Hen women, Shauna
Hughes (Middlesex, NJ HS) was second in the 10,000
meters (39:54.32), Lindsay Taylor
(Princeton/Cranbury, NJ) was second in the javelin
(109-11), and Melissa Calvanico (Tottenville/Staten
Island, NY) was third in the shot put (39-8) and sixth in
the hammer throw (125-7).
Both Delaware teams will compete at the
Lafayette (Pa.) Invitational next Saturday in Easton,
PA.
