BALTIMORE -- Both the University of Delaware men’s and women’s lacrosse teams earned votes in the national Top 20 polls announced earlier this week.

The Delaware men (9-5), coming off a 20-5 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Robert Morris Saturday, earned votes in both the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association coaches poll and in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse media poll but did not crack the Top 20 in either.

The Delaware women (10-5), who split a pair of CAA games last weekend with a 14-6 win over Old Dominion and a 17-13 setback to William & Mary, gained votes in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll but were not among the Top 20.

The Blue Hen men have earned votes in every USILA and Inside Lacrosse poll this season and were ranked as high as No. 7 in the USILA poll and No. 8 in the Inside Lacrosse poll back on March 10. Delaware will close out the regular season Saturday at Sacred Heart and need a win to gain one of four spots in the upcoming CAA Tournament April 30 at home sites.

The Delaware women have earned votes in eight of the 10 Inside Lacrosse polls this season and were ranked as high as No. 19 back on March 3. The Blue Hens close out the regular season Thursday, Apr. 24 at Villanova University and are awaiting results of two other league games this week to see if they have qualified for the CAA semfinals May 2.

In the men’s USILA poll, Syracuse was at No. 1 with six first place votes and was followed by Duke (5), Virginia, Georgetown, UMBC, Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame, Cornell, Maryland, and Princeton in the top 10. Army was at No. 11 followed by North Carolina, Ohio State, Navy, Loyola, Drexel, Brown, Denver, Bucknell, and Hofstra. Colgate, Delaware, Albany, and Rutgers were among those also earning votes.

In the men’s Inside Lacrosse poll, Duke was at No. 1 with 10 first place votes. followed by Syracuse (9), Virginia, Georgetown, Maryland, Johns Hopkins, UMBC, Cornell, Ohio State, and North Carolina in the top 10. Princeton was at No. 11 followed by Notre Dame, Army, Loyola, Brown, Navy, Drexel, Denver, Hofstra, and Bucknell. Among others receiving votes were Colgate, Canisius, Delaware, Towson, and Albany.

In the women’s Inside Lacrosse poll, undefeated Northwestern stayed at No. 1 with all 10 first place votes followed by Maryland, Syracuse, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Vanderbilt, Boston University, Notre Dame, Georgetown, North Carolina, Duke, Cornell, New Hampshire, Yale, George Mason, Towson, Denver, Dartmouth, and William & Mary. Among others receiving votes were Johns Hopkins, California, Delaware, Oregon, Ohio State, James Madison, Hofstra, and Fairfield.

The Delaware women did not receive votes in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association top 20 poll.
