WEST HYANNISPORT, MA -- University of Delaware women's lacrosse players Casey McCrudden, Katie Muth, and Emily Schaknowski, three key members of a Blue Hen squad that went 11-6 and advanced to the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals, have been selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Mid-Atlantic Region second team, the IWLCA announced on Thursday.
McCrudden, Muth, and Schaknowski joined 125 other players from around the nation on the IWLCA's all-region teams. First and second teams were chosen in each of four regions - the West/Midwest, South, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast. All 128 athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams, which will be announced on May 29.
McCrudden, a senior attack from Voorhees, NJ, led the Blue Hens with 43 goals on the season and ranked third on the team with 45 points. She scored two game-winning goals, recorded a pair of five-goal games, and posted team highs of 90 shots and 65 shots on goal.
Muth, a senior midfielder from Ellicott City, MD, ranked second on the squad with 32 goals and dished out a team-high 16 assists on the year. The co-captain also picked up 23 ground balls, tallied 19 draw controls, and converted on 11 of her 18 free-position shots. Her seven points (five goals, two assists) against Drexel on April 4 were the most in a single game by any Blue Hen this season.
Schaknowski (at right), a sophomore midfielder from Wading River, NY, earned all-region honors on the strength of her 29 goals and league-best 27 assists. She tallied a team-high 56 points and ranked second on the team with 31 draw controls.
Schaknowski was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association first team earlier in the month, while McCrudden and Muth were both second-team picks.
Muth was a first-team all-region selection last year, when attack Nicole Flego and midfielder Debbie Sloan made the second team.
At least one Blue Hen has been named to the All-Mid-Atlantic team each year since 2005.
Towson midfielder Hillary Fratzke, the CAA Player of the Year, represented the conference on the All-Mid-Atlantic first team. Katie Bradley of Drexel and Nikki Marcinik and Julie Ondrako of Towson were chosen to the second team.
