NEWARK, DE -- Courtney Aburn (at right) scored off a feed from Nicole Flego just 37 seconds into the second overtime period to lift the No. 20 University of Delaware women's lacrosse team to a 7-6 Colonial Athletic Association victory at rainy Rullo Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Hens (8-4, 4-1 CAA), who moved into a tie for second place in the CAA standings, remained undefeated at home with a 6-0 mark as they overcame an early 4-0 deficit and rallied for the win. Old Dominion falls to 5-6 and 2-2 in conference play. Each of the Monarch’s six losses have come to IWLCA Top 20 teams.

Delaware got two goals from Aburn, while Flego, Emily Schaknowski, Katie Muth, Debbie Sloan, and Casey McCrudden all tallied goals for the Hens.

Old Dominion would take command early as the Monarchs scored the games first four goals and held the Hens scoreless until the 7:19 mark of the first half. However, back-to-back goals from Schaknowski and Flego would send the Hens into the half down only 4-2.

In the second half Ashley Stanwick put ODU ahead 5-2 just minutes into the second period with her 10th goal of the year, but less than a minute later Aburn scored on a free position shot to ignite a 4-0 UD run. Sophomore Debbie Sloan’s goal that ended the run tied the game at 5-5 with 16:33 left in regulation.

Kelly Kimener would respond for the Monarchs with her second goal of the afternoon to put Old Dominion ahead 6-5 with 11:14 left in the second half. However, Casey McCrudden would tie the game up just 34 seconds later as she put home a Muth pass for her 25th goal of the season. Neither team would score the remaining 10:40 to send the game into overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime session, Aburn scored off a Flego pass just 37 seconds into the second overtime session to give the Hens the sudden death victory.

Delaware goalkeeper Jessica Cerveny posted 5 saves, while Sara Larson stopped six Delaware shots in the loss.

The Blue Hens will return to action Friday when they host Hofstra in a battle of two of the top three teams in the CAA at 7 p.m. at Rullo Stadium.
