REHOBOTH BEACH, DE -- University of Delaware women’s lacrosse players Katie Muth (at right) and Stephanie McQuade (bottom right) have been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Roll.
Muth, a midfielder from Ellicott City, MD (Seton Keough High School), and McQuade, an attacker from Doylestown, PA (C.B. West), were among 157 women from 57 NCAA Division I schools who were recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom.
Both players, who served as co-captains this past season, will be seniors next season for the Blue Hens after each was granted a fifth year of eligibility by the NCAA this past spring.
Northwestern, Albany, and Sacred Heart led all teams with six recipients of the award. Virginia Tech’s Lindsay Pieper was named the 2007 IWLCA Scholar-Atlete of the Year.
Muth, a sport management major with a minor in leadership, posted a 3.38 grade point index for the 2006-07 academic year and carried a 3.09 cumulative average. She earned first team All-IWLCA Mid-Atlantic Region and second team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors in 2007 after leading the team with 37 goals and ranking second in points with 50. A three-year letterwinner, she has scored 11 career goals, including nine in 2005. She played in just two games in 2007 after suffering a season-ending injury vs. Rutgers.
The Blue Hens enjoyed an outstanding season in 2007 under third-year head coach Kim Ciarrocca, posting an overall record of 11-6 and winning five of their final seven games of the season. The Hens, who posted a perfect home record of 9-0 at Rullo Stadium, placed third in the CAA regular season standings with a record of 5-2 before falling to James Madison in the CAA Tournament semifinals.
