RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware senior Katie Muth (top right) and freshman Courtney Aburn (bottom right) swept the Colonial Athletic Associaton weekly award honors Monday as Muth was named the leagues player of the week and Sloan was named rookie of the week.
This marks the second time in school history, since Delaware has been in the CAA, that Blue Hens have won both awards in the same week. Muth and Debbie Sloan achieved the same feat last season.
Muth (Ellicott City, MD/Seton Keough) finished the week with six goals on six shots, four assists, five groundballs, four draw controls and three caused turnovers in Delaware's two victories.
In Sunday's win over Towson, the senior tallied a career-high seven points on four goals and three assists and became the first Blue Hen to record seven points since 2001 when Kate O'Connell notched seven points in a win over Drexel.
In addition, Muth scored two goals and finished with three groundballs, three draw controls and an assist against Virginia Tech.
Aburn (Jarrettsville, MD/John Carroll) earned Rookie of the Week honors after finishing the week with six goals, three assists, and four draw controls.
In Delaware's victory over Virginia Tech, the freshman scored four goals and recorded two assists to become the first Blue Hens freshman to tally six points in a game since 1993 when Kristina Scanlon posted three goals and three assists against Lehigh on April 27.
Aburn also added two goals, an assist and four draw controls against Towson on Sunday. Aburn is the second Delaware player to be awarded Rookie of the Week as Nicole Flego earned the award on February 26.
Muth ranks fourth on the team in scoring with 22 points on 17 goals and five assists while Aburn ranks fifth with 17 points on 12 goals and five assists.
The Blue Hens, who are on a four-game winning streak for the first time since opening the season 8-0 in 2000, will next be in action Friday when they travel to CAA rival George Mason at 7 p.m.
