WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- Collen Dalon scored a hat trick to lead No. 14 College of William & Mary to a 9-8 come from behind victory over the University of Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association women’s lacrosse action on Friday afternoon at Albert-Daly Field.
Delaware, which upset the No. 15 William & Mary team with a 13-8 victory in 2005, got two goals and one assist apiece from senior Megan Hager (at right) and sophomore Jenny Diana. Sophomore Casey McCrudden scored two goals while senior Diana Hall and freshman Lindyn Soviero tallied one goal each. Junior Katie Muth added one assist.
The Tribe, which holds a 7-4 all-time advantage over the Blue Hens, received two goals and one assist from La Nolan and two goals from Kristen Wong. Jamie Fitzgerald and Morgan Lang added one goal each for William & Mary.
McCrudden opened the scoring with a free position shot 5:50 into the first half before Hager gave Delaware a 2-0 advantage 2:37 later on an unassisted goal. Dalon responded twice for the Tribe to tie the game 2-2 with 15:10 remaining in the first half. Soviero broke the tie at the 11:15 mark to give the Hens a 3-2 advantage. Hager scored again for Delaware with 5:56 left in the first half before Fitzgerlad scored at the 3:34 mark to cut the Delaware lead to 4-3 going into halftime.
McCrudden opened the scoring in the second half as well with a free position shot 3:06 into the second half of play. William & Mary’s Dalon and Nolan tied the score for the second time of the afternoon 2:33 later. Diana gave Delaware a 6-5 advantage at the 21:38 mark before Wong scored back to back goals to give the Tribe the 7-6 lead. Diana scored with 14:37 remaining in the second half to tie the score for the third time. Hall then took a pass from Diana to give Delaware a 8-7 advantage. Lang scored with 8:52 remaining to tie the game for a fourth time before Nolan scored the game-winner at 5:33.
Jessica Cerveny made a game-high 11 saves in the net for the Blue Hens while William & Mary’s Amanda Roth made seven saves.
The Tribe held a 26-22 advantage in shots, while Delaware led, 18-16, in groundballs.
Delaware returns to action on Sunday when the Blue Hens travel to Norfolk, VA to take on CAA rival Old Dominion University for a 12 noon game.
