RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware junior Katie Muth (at right) and freshman Debbie Sloan swept the weekly honors awarded by the Colonial Athletic Association for the games ending March 19, the CAA announced. Muth was named player of the week and Sloan was named rookie of the week.
This marks the first time in school history since we have been in the CAA that Delaware (3-3) has won both awards in the same week.
Muth (Ellicott City, MD/Seton Keough) dished out two assists and scored two goals, including the game-winner with 1:38 left in the second overtime period, to lead the Blue Hens to a 9-8 win over Brown on Sunday. She also notched a hat trick in Delaware’s 10-9 come from behind win over No. 17 Penn on Wednesday.
Sloan (Thornton, PA/West Chester East) scored one goal and dished out one assist in Delaware’s 10-9 win over No. 17 Penn on Wednesday. She also scored one goal and had one assist in the Blue Hens’ 9-8 overtime victory over Brown. For the week, she also tallied six ground balls, four draw controls, and caused five turnovers.
Muth and Sloan, who are both receiving these honors for the first time, are tied for third on the team in scoring with 13 points apiece. Muth has 10 goals, three assists, 13 groundballs, six draw controls and seven caused turnovers on the season, while Sloan has nine goals, four assists, 16 groundballs, eight draw controls, and leads the team with nine caused turnovers.
The Blue Hens, who are on a two-game winning streak, will open conference play when they travel to Towson University on Friday, March 24 for a 7 p.m. game. This will start a five-game road trip for the Blue Hens.
