INDIANAPOLIS, IN  -- Former University of Delaware women’s lacrosse All-American Karen Emas Borbee (bottom right) and current Blue Hen associate head coach Alex Kahoe (top right) have been named to the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse 25th Anniversary Team for their outstanding achievements while competing in NCAA championships.

The team was selected by a vote of an expert panel consisting of current and former coaches, athletics administrators, and sports information directors in March. In addition to Emas and Kahoe, 10 other former student-athletes and one coach were honored. The NCAA is celebrating the 25th anniversary of women’s championships in several sports during the 2005-06 athletic season.

Emas, a native of Swarthmore, PA and currently the women’s lacrosse head coach at Swarthmore College, was a four-year standout at Delaware in 1981-84, earning All-American honors three times, including first team laurels as a senior in 1984. She led the Blue Hens to three straight national titles, as part of the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women in 1981 and 1982 and with the NCAA in 1983, and to a third place NCAA finish in 1984.

She was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team in both 1983 and 1984 and was selected as the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 1983. She set an NCAA record for goals (310) and points (420) during her career and still holds 15 other school records. A 1985 Delaware graduate, she was named the East Coast Conference Most Valuable Player twice, was selected as UD’s Outstanding Senior Female Athlete of the Year in 1984, and was a member of the inaugural UD Athletics Hall of Fame induction class in 1997.

Kahoe, currently in her third year as an assistant at Delaware, was a standout goalkeeper at the University of Maryland in 1997-2000, leading the Terrapins to four straight national titles and a combined 100-5 record under head coach Cindy Timchal. She earned NCAA All-Tournament all four years, was the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association National Player of the Year in both 1999 and 2000, earned first team All-American honors in both 1999 and 2000 and second team All-American honors in 1998.  She was the NCAA Goalie of the Year twice, Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year in 1997, ACC Goalie of the Year three times, and was named  to the ACC 50th Anniversary team in 2002.

A 2000 graduate of the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in both criminal justice and sociology, Kahoe coached at her alma mater and at the University of Pennsylvania before coming to Delaware.
