McCrudden, Cellucci, Rausa Net Hat Tricks as Delaware Moves Step Closer to CAA Tournament Berth with 15-3 Win over Old Dominion

NEWARK, DE - The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team used a four-goal game from freshman Casey McCrudden (Voorhees, NJ/ Eastern-right) on the way to a 15-3 win over Old Dominion on Friday night in Colonial Athletic Association action.

The Blue Hens (6-5, 3-3 CAA), who picked up a much-needed win as they continue to fight for the final spot in the upcoming CAA Tournament also received three goals apiece from junior Kristen Cellucci (Springfield, PA/ Springfield) and senior Becky Rausa (Fallston, MD/ Forest Hill). Cellucci also added two assists on the night to give her five points for the game. Senior Erin Edell (Glenelg, MD/ Glenelg) contributed two goals on the night while sophomore Katie Muth (Ellicott City, MD/ Seton Keough) added a goal and two assists. Junior Patrice Hughes (Springfield, PA/ Springfield) made eight saves between the pipes for the Blue Hens.

Old Dominion (3-9, 0-5 CAA) received goals from Katie Veneziale, Ashley Stanwick, and Colleen Carver. Michelle Gannon started the game in net and made seven saves in 32:25 of action.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the first half, Delaware went on a 7-0 run over a span of 15 minutes to open up an 8-1 lead. Old Dominion got one back before Cellucci completed her fifth career hat trick with a goal just before the halftime horn for a 9-2 lead.

Delaware opened the second half by scoring two goals in the first three minutes and increasing their lead to 11-2. McCrudden secured her fifth career hat trick with a goal during that stretch. After Old Dominion received a goal from Stanwick, her team-leading 26th of the year, the Blue Hens rattled off four more goals to close out the scoring.

Delaware held an impressive 35-15 advantage in shots while Old Dominion held a slight advantage in groundballs at 22-20.

The Blue Hens will return to action Sunday when they host No. 15 William & Mary at noon in their final CAA regular season game. A win by Delaware on Sunday would keep its CAA championship dreams alive, as Drexel, Wiilliam & Mary, Towson, are all still in the running for the final two spots in the tournament. A loss would eliminate the Blue Hens from post-season action.
