VA - The No. 20 University of Delaware
women's lacrosse team received a hat trick
from freshman Casey McCrudden (Voorhees,
NJ/ Eastern-right) and sophomore Katie
Muth (Ellicott City, MD/ Seton Keough) but
it was not enough as the Blue Hens dropped
a 11-8 decision at George Mason on Sunday
afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association
action.
The Blue
Hens (5-5, 2-3 CAA) received a hat trick
from McCrudden and Muth while McCrudden
added an assist on the afternoon and
senior Becky Rausa (Fallston, MD/ Forest
Hill) dished out two helpers. Junior
Patrice Hughes (Springfield, PA/
Springfield) tied her career-high with 13
saves between the pipes for Delaware.
George
Mason (4-7, 3-1 CAA) who is off to its
best CAA start since 2002, received a hat
trick from Sarah Bryant and Laura King
while Alex Velesz and Brandi Evans each
added two goals apiece. Meg Dentler made
15 saves in net for the
Patriots.
Delaware
trailed 6-2 with 9:27 remaining in the
first half before the Blue Hens rattled
off three unanswered goals to make the
score 6-5 at the half in favor of George
Mason. The Blue Hens received two goals
apiece from Muth and McCrudden in the
first half.
George
Mason scored the first two goals of the
second half to increase their lead to 8-5
with 22:20 remaining in the game. Delaware
then held George Mason scoreless for the
next 11 minutes and in that time, scored
three goals of their own to tie the game
at 8-8. McCrudden scored the game tying
goal for the Blue Hens off a pass from
Rausa at 12:31. That would be the last
goal Delaware was able to score as George
Mason notched three goals in the final 11
minutes including two from King to secure
the victory.
Delaware
held the advantage over George Mason in
shots, 29-27 and groundballs,
29-23.
The Blue
Hens will return to action on Friday night
when they return home to face CAA foe Old
Dominion at 7 p.m.
