No. 15 Delaware Women's Lacrosse Team Falls at Drexel, 11-8

PHILADELPHIA -- The No. 15 University of Delaware women's lacrosse team fell to the Drexel Dragons by a score of 11-8 in a Colonial Athletic Association contest on Friday afternoon in Philadelphia. This was just the second time in 21 meetings between the two schools that Drexel had recorded the victory. The last time the Dragons beat the Blue Hens was in 1993 when the Blue Hens fell by a score of 11-9. It was also Drexel's first win over a ranked opponent since joining the CAA.

The Blue Hens (4-3, 1-1 CAA) received a career-high five goals from senior Becky Rausa (Fallston, MD/ Forest Hill - left, her first career hat trick, while Laura Miller (Morton, PA/ Ridley/ Penn State), Kristen Cellucci (Springfield, PA/ Springfield), and Stephanie McQuade (Doylestown, PA/ C.B. West) each added a goal on the afternoon. Junior Patrice Hughes (Springfield, PA/ Springfield) made eight saves in net for the Blue Hens.

The Dragons (7-1, 1-1 CAA) which dropped their season opener but have now won seven straight games, a new school record for the Dragons, received four goals and an assist from Emily Hoesch while Colleen Rocks, Nicole Adams, and Kerry Kelly each scored two goals on the afternoon. Kristen Urian made 11 saves between the pipes for the Dragons.

Drexel held leads of 2-1 and 3-1 before Rausa cut the Dragon lead to 3-2 with a goal at 15:07. Drexel scored two more goals to go up 5-2 before the Blue Hens scored two of the final three goals in the half. Drexel held a 6-4 advantage at the break.

Delaware came out hot in the second half, as the Blue Hens scored four of the first five goals to take their first lead of the game at 8-7. However, Rausa's goal at 19:43 was the last goal of the game for the Blue Hens. Drexel scored the final four goals of the game including the game tying goal at 13:43 and the game winner at 6:34.

Delaware held a 29-23 advantage in shots and a 24-22 advantage in ground balls. Junior Lauren Carrigan (Malvern, PA/ West Chester East) led all players on the afternoon with seven ground balls collected.

The Blue Hens will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they host No. 10 Hofstra at 12 noon in a CAA contest.
