Greyhounds

BALTIMORE -- The University of
Delaware women's lacrosse squad rallied back from a 10-5
deficit midway through the second half but came up short as
the Hens dropped an 11-8 decision to No. 4 ranked Loyola
Friday afternoon at Curley Field.
The Blue Hens (1-3), who have now lost
three straight games, all by four goals or less, rallied
back to cut the lead to 10-8 with just under nine minutes
left to play but could never cut the gap closer in falling
to the Greyhounds for the ninth straight time.
Delaware senior Michelle
Campolettano scored a career-high five points on three
goals and two assists while Jenny Diana added a goal
and an assist. The Hens outshot Loyola 29-27 and held a 13-8
advantage in draw controls. Patrice Hughes posted
nine saves in the nets.
Loyola, a perennial national power, got
four goals from Talia Shacklock and two goals and five
assists from Rachel Shuck to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Sydney Greene and Kate McHarg both added a goal and an
assist and goalkeepers Kim Lawton (10 saves) and Cindy
Nicolaus (eight saves) combined to stop 18 Blue Hen
shots.
Delaware jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the
first 13 minutes of the game as Campolettano scored on a
free position and then fed Kristin Cellucci. But
Loyola reeled off four straight goals, including two by
Shacklock, to eventually take a 5-3 lead into
intermission.
The Greyhounds scored six of the first
eight goals of the second half to take a 10-5 lead as
Shacklock ended the scoring with a goal with 15:43 left to
play. But the Blue Hens followed with a furious rally as
Campolettano scored twice and Laura Libertini added
her first goal of the season. Campolettano's second goal cut
the lead to 10-8 with 8:14 left to play.
But Delaware was held in check the rest
of the way and Loyola added some insurance on a goal by
Jaclyn Borrone with 4:09 left to play.
