Hofstra's Becky Thorn
notched seven goals and one assist for the Pride en route to
a17-8 victory over the University of Delaware women's
lacrosse team in Colonial Athletic Association action Sunday
afternoon at Shuart Stadium.
The scoring was
back-and-forth in the opening 24 minutes of the first half
as senior Michelle Campolettano (Massapequa Park, NY/St.
Anthony's) connected with 4:47 remaining in the half to
give the Blue Hens their final tie of the contest at 4-4.
Hofstra's Caitlin Connolly scored an unassisted goal just 37
seconds later to ignite a 7-0 Hofstra run that would carry
over into the second half and give the Pride a comfortable
11-4 lead. Thorn had four of her career-high seven goals in
the spurt.
Delaware drops to 3-7
overall (1-2 CAA) with the loss while Hofstra improves to
5-4 (1-1 CAA) with its first conference victory of the
season.
Delaware was led by junior
midfielder Erin Edell (Glenelg, MD/Glenelg) and
freshman attack Jenny Diana (Burke, VA/Robinson) who
each had two goals and an assist in the losing effort while
senior Shannon Kron (Baltimore, MD/Maryvale Prep)
tallied one goal and two assists.
Sophomore Patrice Hughes
(Springfield, PA/Springfield) and junior Lauren Burtch
(Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) split time in the net for
the Hens. Hughes amassed four saves while Burtch stopped one
would-be goal.
The Blue Hens return to
action on Friday, April 9 as they host No. 7 James Madison
at 7 p.m. at Rullo Stadium.
