Eight Straight Goals in Second Half to Win CAA

NEWARK, DE -- Senior Nikki
Kucharski scored three goals and sophomores Erin
Edell and Shannon Kron each netted two as the
University of Delaware women's lacrosse team reeled off
eight unanswered goals in the second half to down Towson,
12-8, in Colonial Athletic Association action Sunday
afternoon at Rullo Stadium.

Delaware (2-3, 1-0 CAA), which snapped a
two-game losing streak, has now won six straight league
openers and eight of nine games overall against the
Tigers.
Towson sophomore Martha Dwyer scored
three of her four goals in the first half to help the Tigers
(3-1, 1-1 CAA) to a 6-4 halftime lead. The Tigers widened
their lead to 8-5 on Dwyer's fourth goal of the game with
24:35 to play before the Blue Hen defense held them
scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Edell and Kucharski each scored twice to
help Delaware take a 9-8 lead with 13:05 left in the half
before sophomores Diana Hall, Becky Zane and
Kron each posted goals to put the game away.
Freshman Megan Hager and junior
Libby Pforr each had a goal and an assist for Delaware,
while Towson received two goals from both Becky Trumbo and
Stephanie Howell.
Delaware freshman goalkeeper Patrice
Hughes made seven saves en route to earning her second
win of the season, while Towson netminder Jessica O'Connell
took her first loss of the season. Sophomore Lauren
Burtch also received playing time for Delaware,
recording two saves.
Delaware returns to action this Wednesday
when it takes on No. 6 Cornell at Rullo Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
