Quakers Erupt for
Eight Second-Half Goals to Down
Hens
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Erin
Edell posted two goals and Meagan Hager added two
assists, but it wasn't enough as the University of Delaware
fell to Penn in the 2003 women's lacrosse season-opener at
Franklin Field Wednesday night, 12-3.
Kate Murray, Whitney Horton, Katie
Spofford and Emily Cochran each scored two goals for the
Quakers, who improved to 2-1 lifetime against the Blue
Hens.
Delaware (0-1) jumped out to an early 1-0
lead on Edell's first goal, before Penn scored four of the
next five goals to take a 4-2 lead into halftime. The
Quakers (1-0) extended their lead to 6-2 before Hager netted
her first goal of the season off a pass from Becky
Zane to cut the Blue Hens deficit in half, but Penn
scored the next six goals to pull away.
Delaware goalkeepers Lauren Burtch
and Patricia Hughes combined to make 15 saves on 31
shots, while Penn netminder Alaina Harper stopped seven Blue
Hen shots.
Delaware returns to action this Saturday
when they take on the Temple Owls at Rullo Stadium. Game
time is set for 1 p.m.
