DENVER, CO -- Sophomore Erin
Edell notched her first-career hat trick and senior
Nikki Kucharski registered her fourth three-goal game
of the season as the University of Delaware completed a
two-game sweep of its spring break trip to Colorado with a
14-12 win over Denver in non-conference women's lacrosse
action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Blue Hens (6-5) moved
above the .500 mark for the first time this season. The trip
also marked a homecoming for both Kucharski and sophomore
Connie Martin, who both played high school lacrosse
at Cherry Creek High School in Englewood, CO.
Denver opened the scoring at the 28:09
mark of the first half on a goal by Patience Baldwin and
took a 3-2 lead at the 11:59 mark on a goal by Steph
Greenless.
Delaware evened the game at 6-6 entering
the half on two late goals by Kucharski and scored the first
two of the second half to take a 8-6 lead, which they
extended to 14-9 on two goals by Edell, as well as goals by
Kucharski and senior Kateri Linville.
The Pioneers (5-4) rallied for three
goals late, but freshman goalkeeper Patrice Hughes
denied Denver players time and time again, registering seven
saves on the afternoon to even her record at 4-4 on the
season.
Junior Libby Pforr scored twice
for the Blue Hens, while sophomore Becky Zane,
junior Shannon Kron and freshman Laura
Libertini and Lauren Carrigan added a goal each.
Denver was led by Baldwin with five goals while Greenless
added four.
The Blue Hens return to action on April
11 when they travel to Virginia to take on William &
Mary in Colonial Athletic Association action. Game time is
set for 4 p.m.
