STATE COLLEGE, PA -- Freshman
Katie Jeschke scored the game-winning goal with 4:10 left to
play to lift No. 13 ranked Penn State to a 6-5 non-league
women's lacrosse victory over No. 18 University of Delaware
Wednesday afternoon.
The game was moved inside to Holuba Hall
due to heavy rains in the area.
The Nittany Lions evened their record to
3-3 with their second straight victory as Carey Bush scored
two goals to lead the way.
The Blue Hens, who got a game-high two
goals from Megan Fortunato, had a two-game win streak
snapped to fall to 3-2 and suffered through an off-day
offensively after scoring 27 goals in the last two outings.
The Hens continued to struggle in State
College as they fell to 0-11 all-time at Penn State. The
Hens had defeated Penn State 15-7 last season at Ohio
State.
The game was tied four times, including a
2-2 deadlock at halftime and a 3-3 tie with 21:13 left to
play when Delaware's Katrina Metz scored.
But Penn State followed with two straight
goals in a five-minute stretch to take a 5-3 lead. Delaware
rallied to tie the score as Corinne Shuck scored with
6:52 left and Fortunato tied the score at 5-5 with a goal
with 5:20 remaining.
Penn State scored the game winner just 70
seconds later as Jeschke took a feed from Colleen O'Hara and
scored past UD goalkeeper Laurie Tortorelli (eight
saves).
Delaware returns to action Saturday when
it travels to No. 7 ranked James Madison for a non-league
game.
