Loyola Starts Quick, Down Blue Hens 14-5 Behind Morlang

Corinne Shuck Netted Two Goals for Delaware

NEWARK, DE -- Junior Stacey Morlang struck for three goals and three assists and four other Loyola players scored two goals each as the No. 2 ranked Greyhounds downed the University of Delaware 14-5 in a non-league women's lacrosse game Tuesday night at Rullo Stadium.

Loyola jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game and cruised to its ninth straight victory to improve to 10-1 on the season. Delaware, which got two goals and two assists from senior Megan Fortunato (Upper Moreland/Hatboro, PA), lost for the sixth time in the last seven games, four to Top 20 teams, to fall to 4-7. The game was a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament first round game when Loyola downed the Hens 14-4 in Baltimore. Loyola downed the Blue Hens for the seventh straight time.

Krissy Warnock (Conestoga/Wayne, PA), Megan Santacroce (Broadneck/Arnold, MD), Lauren Peck (Broadneck/Arnold, MD), and Jen Testrake (McLean, VA HS) each scored two goals apiece for the Greyhounds with Warnock adding two assists and Santacroce and Peck each adding an assist. Morlang (Victoria, Australia), the nation's No. 5 leading scorer entering the game, upper her season totals to 33 goals and 17 assists. Goalkeeper Tricia Dabrowski (Dulaney/Timonium, MD) led the defensive effort with 10 saves.

Junior Corinne Shuck (Broadneck/Annapolis, MD) chipped in with two goals for the Blue Hens while junior Ashley Moderacki (Haverford/Havertown, PA) scored a goal and Katrina Metz (Plymouth-Whitemarsh/Fort Washington, PA) had an assist.

Danielle Battersby scored for Loyola just 62 seconds into the game and Suzanne Eyler and Warnock added goals in the next two minutes to spot the Greyhounds to a quick 3-0 lead. Moderacki put the Hens on the board with 21:09 left in the first half, but Loyola followed with five straight goals, two by Santacroce, to go up 8-1. Shuck scored two goals 29 seconds apart for the Hens to cut the lead to 8-3, but Loyola scored the last two goals of the half for a 10-3 lead at intermission.

In the second half, the Hens ended a 27-minute scoring drought when Fortunato scored with 15:19 left to cut the lead down to 11-4. However, that was as close as Delaware would get the rest of the night.

Delaware, tied for first place in the America East standings with a 2-0 mark, will host No. 15 Boston University (6-4, 2-0) Saturday at 12 noon at Rullo Stadium.
