WEST CHESTER, PA -- The University of Delaware
scored the first six goals of the second half to overcome a
two-goal first half deficit and post a 13-6 women's lacrosse
win over host West Chester Tuesday afternoon.
The Blue Hens, ranked 16th in the latest NCAA Division I
poll, got three goals from Sarah Edwards and two
goals each from Corinne Shuck, Megan Fortunato, and
Kate O'Connell to improve to 3-2 on the season. West
Chester, the No. 1 ranked team in NCAA Division II, fell to
3-2 despite two goals from Teri Minzola. The Hens defeated
the Rams for the eighth straight time.
Edwards scored her first goal with 14:08 left in the
first half to give the Hens a 3-2 lead, but West Chester
reeled off the final three goals of the half to take a 5-3
lead into intermission.
Freshman Laurie Tortorelli took over in goal for
the Hens in the second half and made an immediate impact,
holding the Rams scoreless for the first 18 minutes of the
stanza and making eight saves.
Delaware scored the first six goals of the second half,
two each by Edwards and Fortunato, to go up 9-5. After
Minzola scored West Chester's only goal of the second half
with 11:01 left to play, the Hens reeled off four more
goals, two by Schuck, to end the game.
