Women's Lacrosse Routs Vermont 24-6
BURLINGTON, VT -- The University of Delaware
women's lacrosse team cruised to its 18th straight America
East Conference victory Sunday afternoon with a 24-6 victory
over host University of Vermont.
The Blue Hens, the No. 15 ranked team in NCAA Division I,
improved to 6- 3 with their fourth win in the last five
games. The Hens, who have not lost to a league opponent
since early in the 1997 season, are now 3-0 in league play.
Vermont remained winless on the season, falling to 0-8,
0-4.
Delaware didn't waste any time, jumping out to a 16-4
halftime lead and moving on to the win. In all 11 different
Blue Hen players scored at least one goal led by Megan
Fortunato (Upper Moreland/Hatboro, PA), Sarah
Edwards (Moorestown, NJ Friends), and Liz Walton
(Upper Dublin/Willow Grove, PA) who each connected four
times.
The 24 goals was the most by Delaware since a 24-7 win
over Lehigh in 1997 and the most in conference play since a
24-2 win over Towson in 1987. The Hens have outscored league
opponents 54-17 this season.
Delaware, which outshot Vermont 33-16, also got three
goals from Toni Leidy (Downington/Exton, PA) and two
each from Ashley Moderacki (Havertown/Haverford, PA)
and Kate O'Connell (Mt. de Sales/Columbia, MD).
Fortunato and Robyn Hill each added two assists.
Fortunato has now scored 13 goals in her last three
games.
Vermont got two goals each from Courtney LaMere and
Lindsay Morgan.
