SUBJECT:UD Women's Lacrosse Advances to America East Finals

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Megan Fortunato had five goals for the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team (12-5, 6-0) as the Hens won their 22nd straight conference game, and advanced to the America East championship finals for the fourth year in a row with a 9-4 win over Towson (4-12, 3-3) in Saturday afternoon's semi-final matchup at Hofstra Stadium.

The win over Towson marked the third straight year that Delaware has knocked the Tigers out of the America East tournament, with the two previous victories coming in the finals.

Towson jumped out to a quick 2-1 lead on goals from Amy Buck and Amie Rose, but Delaware got three straight goals from Fortunato, Sarah Edwards and Amy Sullivan to lead 4-2 going into halftime.

Rose opened up the scoring in the second half putting Towson within one goal at 4-3 with 16:37 left in the second half. However, Delaware would score the next three goals, with Fortunato scoring the first two, to go up 7-3 with 8:24 left. The Hens would then score two out of the next three goals to clinch the victory.

Delaware was led by Fortunato's five goal effort and two goals by Edwards. Christy Buck and Sullivan also chipped in with goals. Goalkeeper Laura Tortrelli, the America East Rookie of the Year, had six saves for Delaware.

Towson was led by a superb goaltending effort from Jacquie Sica who had 16 saves on the afternoon.

Delaware will play in the America East Championship Finals on Sunday against Boston University at 1 p.m. in Hofstra Stadium.
