UD Women's Lacrosse Tops Richmond 16-8

 

RICHMOND, VA -- The No. 15 ranked University of Delaware women's lacrosse team (1-1) bounced back from its 10-8 loss to Rutgers on Wednesday to post a 16-8 victory over the Richmond Spiders (0-5) on Saturday at Richmond in a non-conference contest.

The first half saw a back in forth affair between the two squads that saw Delaware trail 5-4 going into halftime. However, after falling behind 6-5 with 22:51 left in the second half the Hens erupted for ten unanswered goals led by two goals each from Amy Sullivan and Christy Buck to put the Hens up 15-6 with 2:57 left in the game.

Delaware was led by Sullivan who had a hat trick for the Hens, while Buck, Corinne Schuck, Katy Hahn and Danielle Lauer all put in two goals for the Blue Hens. Freshman Ashley Moderacki and Sarah Edwards both had two assists for Delaware.

Richmond, who was outscored 11-2 in the final 22:51 of the game, was led by Alexis Brandolini and Jessica Popham who had two goals each for the Spiders.

Delaware will be in action next on Wednesday March 24, when the Hens travel down to Towson, Md. to take on America East rival Towson University at 3:30 p.m.
