Delaware Downs New Hampshire 12-5 in Women's
Lacrosse
NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware jumped
out to a 9-0 halftime lead and never looked back in posting
a 12-5 America East women's lacrosse victory over New
Hampshire Friday at Delaware Field.
Sarah Edwards scored four goals and dished out an
assist and Amy Sullivan added three goals and two
assists as the No. 12 ranked Blue Hens (7-4, 4-0) won their
19th straight America East game since 1997. New Hampshire,
which got two goals from Meagan Clavin, fell to 4-8, 2-2.
Delaware has won all five meetings in the series.
Kelly Swift added two goals, Megan
Fortunato had a goal and an assist, and Brooke
Mulligan and Christy Buck also scored for the
Hens, who outshot the Wildcats 33-13. Courtney Davis, Missy
Long, and Colleen Christopher also scored goals for the
Wildcats.
The Hens jumped out to a 9-0 halftime lead as Edwards
scored three goals and Sullivan and Swift each scored twice.
Goalkeeper Laurie Tortorelli turned back all four
shots.
The Hens upped the lead to 10-0 three minutes into the
second half before New Hampshire finally got on the board on
a goal by Christopher with 22:06 left to play.
The Hens will host No. 15 ranked Boston University, 4-0
in league play after a 15-3 win over Towson Friday, in an
America East game Sunday at Delaware Field.
