Lacrosse Downs Hofstra; Clinch America East Regular

HEMPSTEAD, NY -- Twelve different players scored a
goal as the No. 13 ranked University of Delaware women's
lacrosse team clinched its third straight America East
regular season title with a 16-8 victory over host Hofstra
Thursday at Hofstra Stadium.
Robyn Hill scored two goals and dished out three
assists and Ashley Moderacki, Kate O'Connell, and
Liz Walton each scored twice as the Blue Hens (10-4,
6-0 America East) won their fourth straight game and stayed
in the hunt for its first NCAA Tournament appearance since
1984. The Hens, who have now won 21 straight America East
games since early in the 1997 season, will be the No. 1 seed
for the America East Tournament May 1-2 at Hofstra.
The Flying Dutchwomen, who got three goals from Heather
Kain and two from Kathleen McPike, had a two-game win streak
snapped to fall to 4-9, 2-2.
Hofstra jumped out to a 2-0 lead on two Kain goals and
tied the score at 4-4 on another Kain score with 4:35 left
in the first half. But Delaware scored three goals in the
final 1:42 of the stanza to take a 7-4 halftime lead and
scored the first five goals of the second half for a 12-4
cushion.
Also scoring goals for the Hens were Sarah Edwards,
Claire Marazzo, Megan Fortunato, Kelly Swift, Corinne Shuck,
Denise Guerra, Sarah Hills, and Christy Buck.
Delaware goalkeeper Laurie Tortorelli (nine saves)
and Kelly Kenney (five saves) combined for 14 saves.
Hofstra outshot the Hens 33-32.
Delaware will host No. 8 ranked Loyola (10-3) Saturday at
Rullo Stadium.
