Laxers Down Boston U. 11-8, Take America East
Lead
NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware scored
four unanswered goals midway through the second half to
overcame a 5-4 deficit and move on to a key 11-8 America
East women's lacrosse victory over Boston University Sunday
at Delaware Field.
The No. 12 ranked Blue Hens (8-4, 5-0 America East) won
their second straight and moved into sole possession of
first place in the league standings with one league game
left to play. Boston University, ranked No. 15 in the
nation, fell to 11-3, 4-1, despite three goals and an assist
from Chrissy Lombard.
Megan Fortunato scored three goals and dished out
two assists and Christy Buck and Robyn Hill
each added two goals for the Blue Hens, who have now won
20 straight America East games. Kristen Abruzzese added two
goals for the Terriers.
The two teams played to a 2-2 halftime tie before
Delaware scored the first two goals of the second half to go
up 4-2 with 26:04 left. But Boston University followed with
a three-goal flurry to go back up 5-4 with 23:06 left.
Delaware, which is now 18-3 in its last 21 home games,
answered with its four-goal run that spanned six minutes.
Buck tied the game at 5-5 with 21:43 left and Fortunato
followed with the eventual game-winner just 1:11 later.
Denise Guerra and Hill followed with goals to put the
Hens up 8-5 with 15:49 left.
Boston University pulled to within two goals twice at 8-6
with 11:17 left and at 10-8 with 1:04 left, but both times
Delaware answered with a goal to pull away to stop the
threat.
