Fortunato Leads the
Way as Hens Shut Down Dragons
PHILADELPHIA - The 11th ranked
University of Delaware women's lacrosse squad clinched at
least the No. 2 seed in this week's America East tournament
with a 15-1 league victory over host Drexel Saturday
afternoon.

Shuck Had a Goal and an Assist for the
Hens

Megan Fortunato (Upper
Moreland/Hatboro, PA) scored three goals and dished out two
assists and Kelly Swift (Mercy/Sparks, MD), Kate
O'Connell (Mt. De Sales/Columbia, MD), and freshmen
Libby Pforr (Cold Spring Harbor/Lloyd Harbor, NY) and
Katrina Metz (Plymouth-Whitemarsh/Fort Washington,
PA) each added two goals as the Blue Hens (13-3, 5-1) romped
to the victory in their final regular season
game.
Drexel, which tallied its only goal when
Leah Weldon scored her team-high 19th goal of the season
four minutes into the second half, fell to 5-10, 0-5.
Delaware, which will host either Hofstra
or Boston University in the America East semifinals
Wednesday at 4 p.m., extended its winning streak to 30 games
over unranked opponents. The Hens are now 15-1 all-time vs.
Drexel and have won seven straight meetings. Drexel's one
goal the was lowest total allowed by the Blue Hens since a
22-1 win over Hofstra in 1990.
In all 12 different Delaware players
scored at least one goal. Delaware led 7-0 at halftime and
scored the first goal of the second half to go up 8-0 before
the Dragons could get on the board.
