Terriers Snap Delaware's 26-Game Conference Win Streak

BOSTON -- Tenth-ranked Boston University put an end to the University of Delaware's four-year, 26-game America East winning streak Sunday afternoon as the Terriers downed the No. 8 ranked Blue Hens 10-6 in Top 20 women's lacrosse action at Nickerson Field.

Jen Manning scored three goals and dished out an assist and Chrissy Lombard added two goals to lead the Terriers (10-2, 4-0 America East) to the victory and move into sole possession of first place in the league standings. The win was Boston University's first ever over Delaware in six meetings.

Delaware GK Laurie Tortorelli Stopped 19 Shots

Delaware, the three-time defending America East champions, lost for just the second time this season, both to Top 10 ranked teams, to fall to 10-2 overall, 3-1 America East. The Blue Hens had won 26 straight league games, including playoffs, since an 8-3 loss to Towson early in the 1997 season.

Senior Sara Hills (St. Stephen's/Alexandria, VA) led the Blue Hens with two goals, junior Megan Fortunato (Upper Moreland/Hatboro, PA) added a goal and an assist, and sophomore goalkeeper Laurie Tortorelli (Haverford/Havertown, PA) registered a career-high 19 saves in goal but it wasn't enough. The Hens outshot Boston University 37-27.

Boston University goalkeeper Brooke Barrett, the top ranked goalkeeper in NCAA Division I, posted 14 saves to highlight a defensive effort that held the high scoring Blue Hens to just one second half goal. Delaware had entered the game ranked fourth nationally in scoring offense at 14.4 goals per game.

The Blue Hens jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Boston University stormed back with five straight goals to go up 5-2. Delaware came back with two more goals on scores by Kate O'Connell and Fortunato, but Boston University answered again and took an 8-5 lead into halftime. The teams could manage just three second half goals combined as Barrett and Tortorelli put the clamps down.

Delaware will continue America East play when the Hens host Hofstra April 20 at 4 p.m. at Rullo Stadium.
