February 8, 2004 Bennett, Freshmen Stille and Young Pick Up Wins for Blue Hens
The non-scoring meet, Delaware's last home appearance for the indoor season, included nine men's and women's teams. The Delaware women had three individual winners and posted 10 top five finishes while the Blue Hen men had four wins and recorded 17 top five finishes. Brown was Delaware's lone double winner as he captured the 60 meters in a time of 8.43 seconds and later won the 200 meters with a time of 22.32. Also taking home first place finishes for the UD men were Jerome Holder in the 60 meter hurdles (8.43) and the 4 x 400 meter relay team (3:25.94). Highlighting the UD women was freshman Mandy Stille (at right), who placed in the top 10 in four different events and won the triple jump with a leap of 36-10 1/4. Also winning for the Blue Hens were freshman Rachel Young in the shot put (40-6 3/4) and Casey Bennett in the pole vault (11-11 3/4). Bennett won for the fifth time this season. In addition to winning the triple jump, Stille also placed second in the long jump (17-8 3/4), fourth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.20), and eighth in the 200 meters (26.62). Also for the UD men, Holder was fifth in the 200 meters (23.28), Patrick Riley was second in the mile (4:22.35), Sidney Haugabrook was second in the 60 meters (7.11), Mike Sadowsky was second in the 5,000 meters (15:22.90), Rashaad Woodard was third in the 200 meters (22.70) and fifth in the 60 meters (7.19), and Mike Yost was third in the weight throw (50-2) and sixth in the shot put (44-6). Also for the UD women, Lissy Dean was second in the triple jump (36-5 3/4) and fifth in the long jump (16-5 1/4), Jessica Urbonas was second in the weight throw (41-9 1/4) and third in the shot put (35-11 1/2), Elizabeth Russell was third in the high jump (4-11) and sixth in the long jump (15-11 1/2), Tyechia Smith was third in the 200 meters (26.24) and eighth in the 60 meters (8.30), Kristen Frustillo was fifth in the 60 meters (8.14) and sixth in the 200 meters (26.54), and Lauren Palmer was fifth in the shot put (31-9 1/2) and sixth in the weight throw (38-7). first place finishes led by Roger Brown's two
victories in the men's sprint events to highlight final day
action at the UD/Thomson Indoor Track and Field Invitational
Sunday afternoon at the Delaware Field House.
