Smith Sets School Records in 400m, 4 x 400m Relay to Lead UD Women

NEW YORK -- Senior Patrick Riley placed fifth in the 5,000 meters and junior Tyechia Smith (at right) broke her own school record in placing seventh in the 400 meters and ran a leg of the 1,600 meter relay team that placed sixth with another school record to lead the University of Delaware men's and women's indoor track and field teams in the University division at the fourth annual New Balance Armory Collegiate Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Armory Track and Field Center.

The meet included some of the top NCAA Division I teams in the East. The Delaware men posted eight top 20 finishes while the Blue Hen women had eight top 20 finishes during the meet. The Delaware women placed 23rd in the team standings while the UD men were 26th overall.

Riley (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) was the Delaware men's top finisher as he placed fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:48.98, less than a second off his personal best and just over 10 seconds behind the winning time of 14:38.35 put in by Tom Witzleben of La Salle.

Also for the UD men, senior Jerome Holder placed ninth in the 60 meter hurdles (8.45), sophomore Roger Brown placed 12th in the 200 meters (22.32) and 13th in the 60 meters (7.01), junior Sidney Haugabrook was 13th in the 200 meters (22.33) and 25th in the 60 meters (7.13), and freshman Rashaad Woodard collected a 20th place finish in the 200 meters (22.48) and a 37th place finish in the 60 meters (7.32).

Delaware's distance medley relay team also placed 10th with a time of 10:22.90 and the 1,600 meter relay team was 11th in a time of 3:19.83.

The Delaware women's 1,600 meter relay team of Smith, sophomore Kristen Frustillo, freshman Brittany Wright, and freshman Mandy Stille placed sixth overall with a time of 3:51.0, breaking the Delaware record of 3:54.70 set earlier this season.

Smith (McNair Academic/Jersey City, NJ) also broke her own school record with a time of 56.83 to place seventh in the finals of the 400 meter dash. Her old mark was 58.16 set last season.

Stille posted three other top 15 finishes with a ninth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles (9.02) and in the long jump (personal best 17-10 1/4) and a 12th place finish in the triple jump (36-3 1/2). Also for the Hens, sophomore Lissy Dean was 13th in the triple jump (36-2 1/4) and 29th in the long jump (16-7), freshman Rachel Young was 16th in the shot put (40-10 1/4), and Wright was 19th in the 60 meters (7.99) and 31st in the 200 meters (26.09).
