Claim Distance Titles for Blue
Hens
NEW YORK -- Three University of
Delaware athletes captured first place finishes among
collegiate runners as the Blue Hens competed at the
Metropolitan Athletic Congress/New Balance Open Indoor Track
and Field Meet Friday night.
The Delaware men won two events as
Dave Sherman captured the 400 meters (50.52) and
Nate Irvin won the 200 meters in 22.76. Nick
Riordan was second in both the long jump (20-2 1/2) and
triple jump (43-3) while John Morgan was second in
the 800 meters (1:55.80), and Jim DelGrosso was fourth in
the 400 meters (51.26). Jerome Holder was also fourth in
both the 200 meters (23.27) and 400 meters (51.99).
On the women's side, Delaware got
victories from Erin Gemmill in the 1,500 meters
(4:38.59) and Sarah Bochet in the 800 meters
(2:24.35) while Tyechia Smith placed second in the
400 meters while breaking her own school record with a time
of 58.01.
Other Blue Hen runners-up were
Elizabeth Russell in the long jump (15-10 1/2),
Amanda Crouse placed second in the triple jump (33-9
1/2) and third in the long jump (15-9 1/4), and Daniella
Price was third in the 200 meters (25.74).
