Gemmill Posts Two
Top 20 Finishes for UD Women
BOSTON, MA -- The University of
Delaware mens and womens indoor track and field
squads closed out the 2003 season Saturday with competition
at the IC4A and ECAC Regionals.
The Delaware men competed in three events
at the IC4A Regionals at the Boston University Armory while
the UD women competed in two events at the Reggie Lewis
Sports Center.
Seton Hall won the ECAC womens team
title with 77 points followed by runner-up Northeastern
University with 50 points. In the mens IC4A team
standings, Penn State won the team title with 84 points,
well ahead of runner-up Seton Hall with 54. Neither Delaware
squad earned points, which go to the top eight place
finishers.
Junior John Morgan (San
Clemente/Ladera Ranch, CA) was the top finisher among all
Blue Hen athletes as he placed 11th overall in the 1,000
meters with a school record time of 2:28.50. Morgans
time edged the previous record of 2:28.61 set by Troy
Bockius in 2000.
Also for the Blue Hen men, senior Jon
DiNozzi (Fox Lane, NY/Middletown, DE) placed 15th in the
pole vault with a leap of 15-feet, 5-inches and the 4 x 400
meter relay team of Phil Smiley (McKean/Hockessin,
DE), Jim DelGrosso (Salesianum/Wilmington, DE),
Brandon Nesbitt (Ewing/Trenton, NJ), and David
Sherman (Neshaminy/Langhorne, PA) placed 31st with a
time of 3:19.97.
For the Delaware women, senior Erin
Gemmill (Penn Manor/Lancaster, PA) was the lone
competitor, placing 19th in the mile run with a time of
5:06.46 and placing 20th in the 1,000 meters with a clocking
of 3:00.58.
The Delaware track and field teams will
open the spring season March 22 at the Navy
Invitational.
