University of Delaware Relay Teams Post Impressive Finishes at New Balance College Invitational

NEW YORK -- University of Delaware entries posted six top 10 finishes at the New Balance Collegiate Indoor Track and Field Invitational this past weekend the the New York Armory.

The national meet included some of the top teams in the NCAA, including Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida State, LSU, Villanova, and North Carolina.

The Delaware women posted four top 10 finishes led by the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Cristine Marquez, Kristi Cox (at right), Kayla Hennessy, and Asha Quant that captured a first place showing with a time of 3:50.45, less than one second slower than the school record. In addition, Brian Gray was sixth in the high jump (5-2 1/4), the distance medley relay team of Kellyn Wright, Cox, Marquez, and Christina Antonopoulos was sixth in a time of 12:10.14, and Kelli McDonald was seventh in the pole vault (11-9 3/4).

The Delaware men had two top 10 finishes as the distance medley relay team of Will Jurkowski, Adam Cornelisse, Mike Zeberkiewicz, and Brad Dodson was fifth in a time of 10:16.83 and the 4 x 400 meter relay squad of Morrisey, Simkins, Tingue, and Jurkowski placed eighth with a 3:25.23 clocking.

Other top finishes for the UD men were Conrad Rapp placing 16th in the pole vault (14-9), Mike Ward finishing 22nd in the 5,000 meters (15:47.28), and John Viotto placing 25th in the shot put (50-3 1/4).

Other top finishes for the Delaware women were the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Wright, Karen Mandrachia, Stephanie Taylor, and Julia Somers placing 11th in 9:34.64, Amanda Marshall was 13th in the weight throw (52-8 3/4), Laura Chirico was 16th in the pole vault (10-10), and Quant was 19th in the long jump (17-9 3/4).
